Does anyone else ever get the urge to want to collect CRT tvs??
Juan Carlos booked a cabin at the Sou’wester as my xmas gift and it so happened to slightly coincide with the treacherous ice storm that hit portland 2 weeks ago- a city that has no infrastructure for even the slightest bit of snow let alone ice. We were on the fence whether or not we’d be able to make it out but once we got off our street, all other roads we took were clear. It was nice to be able to walk Lottie on solid stable ground again, and also
seeing the sun : )
we were unable to get groceries for a week with the storm and showed up to the cabin a bit unprepared for cooking so ate out a couple times. lets just say I have strong feelings/opinions when it comes to carpets in restaurants and pizza
we came across an empty bus with karaoke set up and ofc belted a couple tunes.
I found a diy wall shelf on the internet that I’m hoping to get started on this weekend, I bought all the pieces for it, now just need to build, I’m not a very big wood project/tool person so, we’ll see….more on that later ;)
Album of the Month
Green Day, Dookie, 1994.
ok ok ok, so it’s the 30 year release of this album….tomorrow (Feb 1rst)!!! They just released a new album that I prob won’t be listening to but Dookie was a big one (lol) in our house growing up. As a bi punk bb myself, I’m kind of obsessed with Billie Joel Armstrong being a bisexual icon, something I learned recently. In both the 90s and recent years Armstrong has spoken about Dookie “touching on bisexuality a lot.” Listening to a lot of these tracks, it’s wild how timeless they feel, I still see kids today bopping to these songs! When I Come Around is a track I keep on my karaoke list, especially when I don’t know what to sing.
Movie of the Month
In the Mood For Love, 2000.
A story of two hot people who live in the same building and who’s spouses are having an affair with each other so they look to one another for companionship but end up falling in love. In all serious though, this film is GORGE and completely hearbreaking, you will prob cry. Moody lighting, beautiful cinematography (really would love to watch this on the big screen), fantastic soundtrack (a handful of Nat King Cole tracks (some covers) I never heard before but was pleasantly suprised to hear titled, “Aquellos Ojos Verdes”, "Te Quiero Dijiste", "Quizás, Quizás, Quizás”).
Work kicked my butt last week, I was given a project and had a massive panic over how to go about animating it, lots of imposter syndrome put me in a fetal position, counting backwards from 100. So much of working in After Effects is muscle memory- I haven’t done too much of watching tutorials/playing around in the last few months with the move, being sick, this ice storm, etc so I’m slowly getting back into it. Grateful to have such supportive and encouraging coworkers <3 Below is a lightboard experiment I made in After Effects.
Finally been taking the time to mess around in Procreate Dreams, I also upped my Skillshare subscription for one more year and found this Lisa Bardot tutorial in navigating how to use the software, it was super helpful figuring out what everything does, what all you can do, it’s all very exciting! So far what I love about it is it’s so quick, and as someone who draws-being able to have all the drawing tools right there vs using a seperate app-is again, incredibly quick. If you don’t have Skillshare it looks like she’s got some youtube tutorials as well! You can use keyframe animation, frame by frame (cel) animation, and “performing”. Which is basically taking your drawing and moving it around yourself as if you’re performing in a play. I’m curious to mess around with performing more, I did not think it looked natural/good even with easing but I’m wondering if there’s another tool to help with that. Really one of the only cons for me with this tool is getting used to the layout- where I physically move my hand to draw, it tends to touch one of the tools so then I have to undo a lot- could also be the size of my iPad.
For this car animation above I used the keyframe tactic.
Thank you for being here, see you next time <3
I love those cars. beep beep
